One of the Edinburgh Seven. After the first term Edith got the highest marks in Chemistry and should have been awarded the Hope Scholarship but because of her sex she was denied it. However the publicity helped to bring attention to the women’s plight to a larger audience. She went on to do her MD in Switzerland and further qualifications in Ireland. She worked as a doctor in England and India and later became involved in the suffrage movement.
